Glossary:
1. Time Dilation
A strange effect where time seems to move at different speeds in different places. For example, if you travel very fast or get close to something very heavy (like a black hole), time for you can pass more slowly than for people who stay at home.
2. Space-Time
The idea that space (where things are) and time (when things happen) are connected like a single fabric. When something very heavy sits on this fabric, it bends, which can change how objects move and how time passes.
3. Portal (Space-Time Portal / ST Portal)
A special doorway that connects two different places and times. When you step through, you can end up somewhere far away, in the future, or even in the past, almost instantly.
4. Vessel
A large, advanced ship used to travel through space and sometimes through time. It can carry people, equipment, and even whole rooms or “cities” inside it.
5. Epsilon (Planet Epsilon)
A distant planet that can only be reached through a space-time portal. It has its own people, animals, and cities, and is very different from Earth, even though some things feel familiar.
6. Sea Dwellers
Intelligent beings who live in the oceans of Epsilon. They focus on science and technology, and they build huge underwater “cities” that can move through the water.
7. Land Dwellers
Intelligent beings who live on the land of Epsilon. They grow food and make many of the things people use every day. They work together with the Sea Dwellers.
8. Supply Depot
A special base where ships (or “cities”) stop to get food, power, and other supplies. It’s like a giant gas station and grocery store in space.
9. Ambassador
A person who represents one world or place when they visit another. An ambassador helps different groups understand each other and solve problems peacefully.
10. Ministry of Space and Time Relations
A group of experts who study and manage travel through space and time. They make sure that time travel doesn’t cause big problems in history or the future.
11. Translator Device
A small machine that listens to one language and speaks it in another. It lets people (or aliens) who speak different languages understand each other right away.
12. Time Travel
Moving from one time to another—like jumping from the year 2026 to the year 3792—without living through all the years in between.
1. Trust and Secrets
Gilbert and Pops promise Farmer and Mrs. Jones they won’t tell anyone about the vessel until the Joneses are “long gone.”
- Why do you think they agree to this?
- Do you think keeping this secret is the right choice? Why or why not?
2. Courage vs. Fear
Gilbert and Pops are often scared (the hatch, the jungle, the T‑Rex, new worlds) but keep going.
- Which moment do you think took the most courage?
- How can you tell the difference between being brave and being reckless?
3. Meeting New Cultures
When they meet Tuga’s village and later the Epsilonians, Gilbert and Pops don’t speak the language or know the customs.
- How do they show respect to the people they meet?
- What does this say about how we should act when we meet people who are different from us?
4. Choices and Consequences in Time Travel
Zenar warns that telling people about their journey could change the future in bad ways.
- Why might sharing their story be dangerous for the timeline?
- If you were Gilbert, would you keep the secret or tell someone you trust? Explain.
5. Family, Mentors, and Growing Up
Pops guides Gilbert through every strange place they visit.
- What are some specific ways Pops helps Gilbert grow or stay safe?
- Who in your life is like Pops for you, and what have they taught you?
